How to Be Tactful With Criticism

No one enjoys being criticized.  How do you deal with criticism when it comes your way?

Here is a personal assessment tool that can help you understand yourself better in dealing with this subject. Answer each question by putting one of the following in the blank:

Never (1); Sometimes (2); Usually (3); Always (4)

1.___I get angry when I am criticized.

2.___I become defensive when I am criticized.

3.___I attack the persons who criticize me.

4.___I pray when I am criticized.

5.___I when I am criticized.

6.___I am unconcerned when I am criticized.

7.___Every day I criticize someone.

8.___I have all the facts before I criticize someone else.

9.___I forgive people who have criticized me.

.___Being criticized makes me feel insecure.

11.___Being criticized for something makes me want to never try again.

12.___When I am criticized, I start criticizing others.

13.___My criticism of others is offered in and appreciation.

14.___When others criticize me, I know that they are doing it out of and concern for me.

15.___The best thing to do with criticism is to ignore it.

Criticism can be a great tool of learning and advancement.  once said,

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great , who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”

Criticism can be a gift if it is seen in a positive fashion!
