"Pride is a sin, and pride will do what sin does. It destroys. Leaders who allow pride to grow unchecked will eventually lose everything - their relationships, their credibility, and ultimately their position as a leader.
The writer of Proverbs sagely warns: "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling." (Proverbs 16:18) Likewise, Scripture reveals: "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble." (James 4:6) Jesus cautioned: "Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted. (Luke 18:14 NIV) Proud people have God as their opponent. This reality ought to be enough to sober even the most vain leader." (Spiritual Leadership, Henry and Richard Blackaby, page 237)
